Sidebar alert: I want to first shout out my teammate Jaquan McCants for giving me the name of this blog. Thank you for blessing me with the title “Accountability” after a good day of practice!
Being accountable is equivalent to being responsible, obedient, or liable. Accountability is another form of adaptability, being able to get out of your comfort zone and still hold onto your goals and ambitions with structure and autonomy. Without accountability, an individual can fall off the balanced scale. How can we continue to thrive on this earth without taking full responsibility for our actions and thoughts? Are we better at being held accountable or living at free-will with no rules and regulations?
For writers, accountability means to be focused on your words, your message, and thoughts, but knowing that your words are genuinely your words. You have to be determined not to fall out of being held accountable to and for your words, and if that accountability is not stable, a writer can get themselves in some trouble. I have always stood on the concept of what I call “Authors Credit” when you always give credit when it is due. The more standard term would be authorship when honorability is present to an author for their work. When there is no accountability, authorship is out of the picture, but when there is, authorship is. Honor your work and others because the time and work ethic present hold too much weight to be disrespected.
